Schlock Mercenary, one of my four favourite webcomics, is finally coming out in paper. I missed the special first-twohundred-preorder, but I will have my book.
I’m not going to introduce the comic to you, because that’s been done better onsite. I’m looking forward to this little bit of goodness. It doesn’t start with the first strip, because the art sucked royally in those days. And the stories weren’t as good. The book starts a bit later when the stories are good and the art is … better.
Fair enough, Mr. Tayler is not the best artist I’ve seen, but he’s far from crap. And now, a few more words of praise: The SF universe is large, good, fairly consistent and has nonhumanoid aliens. Mr. Tayler delivers the goods: On-schedule daily updates, not a single fille strip for nearly six years.
Which implies no stick figures and no Shirt Guy Tom. No stupid cliches overparodied to death like GPF and Sluggy Freelance sometimes lapse into, like they have now.
Problem: Utah release is 20th of May. Meaning I’ll have the book in mid-June, at best. Stupid cross-Atlantic mail service.
Update 2006-05-23: Bookie arrived already. Whee!
